I wanted to dedicate a page to talk a little about this blog and its intent. For years, I’ve blogged about various things and tried to start a few separate projects dedicated to different areas of interest. I found out that was not very efficient. I’ve decided to move my previous blog, Social Media for Writers to this blog, for example. That blog was all about social media for writers, so why not consolidate those here?
As I put focus on one blog, I’ve decided to blog about a few main topics as they pertain to the areas in which I am passionate. Previously, I had a zillion tags. Let’s take a look:
Social Media
I will blog about social media in general, but also more specifically uses of social media in publishing, higher ed and eCommerce. My areas of interest include Twitter, blogging, Facebook, mobile apps. (view posts)
eCommerce
I spent several years working in the eCommerce field and am beginning to dabble in my own online store (which specializes in sleep masks and ear plugs, among other things). I will continue to share my thoughts, ideas and advice on eCommerce. (view posts)
Creative Writing
There is nothing better than being part of a great community of writers. Nowhere to no one else can you talk about the craft and the writer’s life – I live for conversation with my MFA friends and other active writers. I plan to share my thoughts on the publishing industry, the creative process, creative nonfiction and the writer’s life. (view posts)
Higher Education
I will blog about higher education, specifically marketing and website related issues. I’ll probably sprinkle in what it means to be part of a great campus community. I am active in my alumni association at Wilkes and now work for another liberal arts college, so I have a few angles to go here. (view posts)
What else will this blog be about?
I plan to also blog about the events in which I participate, such as social media workshops. I’ll report when I am published in various publications. I also have, in addition to blog posts, static pages which cover:
- About Donna – who I am and where I come from and where I am going
- In the News – highlights of articles for which I was interviewed or featured
- Contact and Connect – a contact form to reach out to me
- Speaking – list of prior, upcoming and available speaking engagements
- Publications – a list of publications in which I’ve been published
What is this blog NOT about?
I will keep this blog professional about the industries and strategies in which I have some expertise or interest. Posts about friends, family, events I’ve gone to and random observations about life can be found at my personal blog, Daily Dose ‘o Donna.
A note about links and ads
First and foremost, the intent of this blog is to be a resource for you and an outlet for me! I’m a member of Amazon Associates and, occasionally, I will use an affiliate link when linking to a book or product I am blogging about – this is mostly for a resource for readers, just as I would link to another reference site. I have a banner ad for my own online store, TheDreamDrawer.com and will consider adding other affiliate ads I feel may benefit my target readers. I like to be tasteful about what ads I link to and transparent about me doing so. I do pay for hosting of this blog, so any bit of revenue generated from this blog will make me smile. (Even if it’s just pennies that will take years to generate the minimum $10 check to cash out. : )
